CHAPTER 7: “BROTHERHOOD OF POOFS”, Amazon eBook, The Peculiar Sex Life of Adolf Hitler

BEFORE HITLER BECAME FUHRER, his peculiar relationships with women, or lack of them, became noticeable and many commentators secretly believed that he was either asexual or homosexual. This belief was based largely on the fact that during the early days of the Nazi Party, many of his inner circle were wellknown homosexuals.” (Nizkor Report: 1943)

It was also widely known that Hitler preferred to have either gay or bisexual men as his personal bodyguards and chauffeurs. Lothar Machtan (Hidden Hitler: 2001) and other scholars have all agreed that “homoeroticism and homosexuality were cornerstones of fascist male-bonding culture prior to 1933.” By this time, Munich newspapers had begun calling the Nazi Party’s Storm Troopers the “Brotherhood of Poofs” because their leader, Ernst Roehm, and most of the provincial leaders he appointed, were homosexuals. Rumors also circulated about others within the Nazi leadership, including Hitler. View Table of Contents

The media’s ridicule caused alarm in the Nazi Party hierarchy and both Heinrich Himmler (SS chief) and Joseph Goebbels (propaganda chief) advised their boss to do something to change the negative perceptions of the German electorate.

Hitler then authorized an edict in 1941 prescribing the death penalty for SS and police members found guilty of gay activity.” (Holocaust Memorial Museum: 2015) The extermination of homosexuals as “sub-humans” and “aberrants” would happen later...
