divorce, at least one birth outside marriage, two births directly

him. His first wife was the daughter of a superior, his second a
waitress, and his third, Adolf

could marry, they were obliged toget an episcopal dispensation from
the Catholic Church because they were related to each other through

In
his petition [Linz registry 6.911/11/2 1884] dated October 27, 1884,
Alois Sr. wrote unflatteringly of his intended bride, Klara: “the
bride is without means and it is therefore unlikely that she will
ever have another opportunity of a good marriage”. He included the
family tree for both his and Klara’s side of the family and all of
their ancestors had the surname “Hiedler” (Hitler). Read review of book.

Linz Episcopate declared itself “not competent” to issue the
dispensation and forwarded the application to Rome where it was
eventually granted by a Papal decree. None of this was ever mentioned
by Hitler in his autobiography Mein Kampf (1925). In
fact, when he came to power in 1933, German newspapers and other
media outlets were strictly forbidden from speculating on his
ancestry...
